Ethics Statement

Ethics Statement

The SCID Journal of Artificial Intelligence (SJAI) will strive to ensure the process of publication of its journal encompasses the highest moral standards. The statement of ethics is guided by the rules and regulations set out in the Committee of Publication Ethics (COPE), International committee of medical journal editors (ICMJE) and other world best practices towards scholarly publishing.

Responsibilities of Authors

  • Originality and Plagiarism: Authors must submit only original work. If the work includes content from other sources, proper citation and permission must be provided. Plagiarism, in any form, is unacceptable.
  • Multiple Submissions: Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal concurrently is prohibited.
  • Authorship Criteria: All listed authors must have made significant contributions to the research and writing. All co-authors must approve the final version before submission.
  • Acknowledgment of Sources: Authors must properly cite all sources and funding that supported the work.
  • Data Integrity: Authors are responsible for the accuracy of data. Fabrication or falsification of results is a serious ethical breach.

Responsibilities of Editors

  • Fair Evaluation: Editors evaluate manuscripts based on academic merit, relevance, and originality, without discrimination.
  • Confidentiality: Editors must keep all information about submitted manuscripts confidential.
  • Conflict of Interest: Editors must recuse themselves from handling manuscripts in which they have a conflict of interest.
  • Handling Misconduct: The editorial team is responsible for investigating suspected misconduct, including plagiarism, data manipulation, or ethical breaches.

Responsibilities of Reviewers

  • Confidentiality: Reviewers must treat manuscripts as confidential documents.
  • Objectivity: Reviews should be conducted objectively and constructively.
  • Acknowledgment of Sources: Reviewers should identify relevant published work not cited by the authors.
  • Conflict of Interest: Reviewers must inform the editor if they have any conflict of interest with the manuscript under review.

Ethical Oversight of Research

  • Human and Animal Rights: Research involving human participants or animals must comply with institutional, national, and international ethical standards. Proper ethical approval (e.g., from an IRB or ethics committee) must be documented.
  • Informed Consent: For research involving human subjects, informed consent must be obtained and documented.
  • AI Ethics Considerations: As an AI journal, SJAI expects authors to address ethical implications of their research, including fairness, bias, transparency, and societal impact where relevant.

Corrections and Retractions

SJAI follows COPE’s guidelines in issuing:

  • Corrections for minor errors that do not affect conclusions
  • Retractions for articles containing major errors, ethical misconduct, or unreliable findings
  • Expressions of Concern if further investigation is needed

Complaints and Appeals

SJAI provides a clear process for handling complaints and appeals. Authors, reviewers, or readers who believe an ethical violation has occurred should contact the editorial office at editorsjai@scidpub.com. All complaints will be handled fairly and confidentially.

Publishing Ethics for AI Research

Given the nature of AI and its potential social impact, SJAI encourages authors to:

  • Disclose potential risks or ethical concerns associated with their models or algorithms.
  • Discuss bias, fairness, and interpretability.
  • Share datasets and code where appropriate, promoting transparency and reproducibility.
